March 7, 2017
March is National Social Services month, and being that it is we would like to recognize, and tell you a little more about our social services director, Debbie Minor and her assistant, Tessla Dixon.
Debbie obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from EKU and her Master’s in Psychology from Walden University. She knew her passion is helping people, and found her “career soul mate” in Social Services. She found her way to long term health care, and when she came in for her interview here she fell in love. “Everyone was so friendly and welcoming”. Debbie has been married to her husband, Paul for 13 years and they have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
Tess obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Berea College. She, too, knew she wanted to help people and found herself working at Kenwood after first volunteering in the activities department and then applying for and being hired as Debbie’s assistant. Tess has been married to her husband, Clinton, for one and half year and they have one daughter.
One of the many things Debbie and Tess do here at Kenwood is get to know the people who reside here. “It’s one of the best parts of our job, hearing their stories, finding out who they are, what they did throughout their life and what brought them here“. The more we learn about the people who reside here, the better we can support them whether they are transitioning into the facility, or if they will be here long term. When asked what the most rewarding things about their job both replied; “Helping the people who reside here, their families and friends through any and all of the stages of life. We are here to be a hand to hold, an ear to listen and an advocate for them“. On behalf of all of the residents, families, and staff we would like to thank Debbie and Tess for all of the hard work, dedication and love they put into their work!
